Vectors and Stone Bridges


The ancient Romans were the first to recognize the potential of arches for bridge construction. In 1994,Vittorio Galliazzo counted 931surviving ancient Roman bridges scattered throughout 26 different countries. Most of these bridges were made of stone, and many have survived for more than 2,000 years.
