Celebrating International Mother Tongue Day Celebration in Canada & Afghanistan

We had a fun day celebrating International Mother Tongue Day on February 29, 2020, at the Sayed Jamaluddin School in Burnaby, where young Afghan-Canadian children living in the Lower Mainland take Farsi classes on Saturdays. After hearing inspiring remarks from the Afghan Consul General to Vancouver Mr. Mohammad Salem Wahdat, and the BC Afghan Association, and representatives of Farsi Dari BC, Darakht-e Danesh Library Content Manager Mr. Abdul Rahim Parwani did a demonstration of our multilingual digital learning library for Afghanistan, showing the kids how they can find storybooks, educational materials and videos, audiobooks and much more -- all in languages spoken in Afghanistan. Meanwhile, the CW4WAfghan team in Afghanistan also recognized International Mother Tongue Day, in Takhar province. The celebration included reading promotion activities like storytelling, and two literacy classes were held with 100 adult literacy students and local public schools, who were provided with books in Dari, Pashto, and Uzbeki.
